Classes
Contemporary Dance Class

Floor work fosters our connection to gravity and we bring that rootedness to various levels of space- playing with the intricacies of wildness and precision, fluidity and form, subtlety and bigness. Phrase work challenges us to engage mid-line support, coordination, musicality, spacial intention and balance. We will focus on buoyancy and articulation of joints to allow for more fluidity, greater expressive range, efficiency and ease in our dancing. The style of the class draws on influences from modern dance forms, release, tai-chi, improvisation and somatic movement.
Workshops
Field: a movement workshop with Rae Shao-Lan Blum
field (feeld), (n.) a body of open ground. (v.) to deal with, to put out.
This group workshop is designed to heighten sentience in our dancing and everyday experience as movement practitioners. We tune our awareness from the inside out through a layered practice of somatic explorations, semi-structured improvisation and writing. We will invest our attention in micro movement to reveal how it informs the greater expressive range we commit to. Presice, experiential awareness of the cranio-sacral axis will be integrated as a grounding field of reference. We will dance the big, we will dance the intricate, we will move the big, small space.
Part 2: field trip
We take what tools we've developed in Field: Part 1 to a place beyond the studio and into a chosen space that is not designated solely for movement practice. This can be an urban or natural setting. We will practice investigation and improvisation sets as we did in Part 1, but now more as observers of our experience in this place. Writing becomes a more prominent tool and a means of tracking and noting our relationship to the place.
